Just a Little Update

(Copied from our Kickstarter Updates )Crazy year huh? I have been meaning to update this blog for a while and I have many many apologies about that. Most times when working in animation, progress is so slow that it feels like any kind of update would be insiginifigant. This film is chugging along, but as with most things this past year it is very much behind where I was hoping to be. We have had a lot of set backs in regards to regularly shifting quarantine policies, in addition to all of the other stressors this past year like a crazy election, protests, riots, forest fires and a deep freeze. Things are looking up though, and with the shoots we have done we have been able to work a lot of the kinks out of the Tin Woodman puppets as well as try out different post processes. (Shooting this many high resolution stills creates a LOT of data to store and keep organized.)

I am always hesitant to show footage before it is finalized but I wanted to start sharing more behind the scenes action and preview how the general look of the film is developing. Here is a clip of Mattzilla working on a simple walking shot. We were gluing the puppet’s feet down when we started but found that there was still too much wiggling in playback to make it look like he had any weight, so we switched a really basic system of holes and pegs. Let me know if you want to see more of this kind of thing.
